This year’s Energy and Blockchain Symposium, as part of the Kenneth W. Davis Jr. Leaders in Energy Speaker Series hosted by the Ralph Lowe Energy Institute, focused on the energy industry and cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin. With our new Fintech Certificate and program in blockchain, AI, and machine learning, as well as crypto’s disruption of world markets, interest in these topics brought a diverse audience of students, professors, entrepreneurs, and investors alike to the October 1 symposium.
The keynote by Geoffrey Cann, co-author of Bits, Bytes, and Barrels: The Digital Transformation of Oil and Gas, was packed with insights into legacy energy systems and digital technology, including key ways the two are already working together “to pull a half-billion people out of poverty and fuel the energy transition.” Cann later joined our expert panel to field questions and discuss blockchain’s impact on energy systems.
