Three Texas Christian University leaders were inducted into this year’s Hart Energy Hall of Fame, which recognizes groundbreaking pioneers in the energy sector. John Pinkerton ’76, Trevor Rees-Jones, and Wil VanLoh ’92 were recently named to the prestigious 2024 class of honorees.
John Pinkerton is an oil and gas industry innovator, recognized for leading the way with the discovery of the largest shale-sourced, natural gas-producing field in the U.S. – the Marcellus Shale. During his 22-year career as president and CEO of Range Resources, Pinkerton built it into one of the premier E&P companies in the U.S. He is now co-leading Appalachia’s top oil producer, Encino Energy. He also dedicates time and his personal energy at his alma mater, by serving as a member of the TCU Board of Trustees. Read more in the Hart Energy profile on Pinkerton.
Trevor Rees-Jones transitioned early in his career from being an oil and gas lawyer to working directly in the industry because he said he found the inner workings of oil and gas business more interesting than the legal work. He impacted the industry with the Barnett Shale as founder of Chief Energy. In addition to being a former member of the TCU Board of Trustees (TCU Trustee Emeritus), Rees-Jones is also a member of the Ralph Lowe Energy Institute Board of Advisors, and Rees-Jones was named to the first class of TCU Legends of Energy in 2023 by the Ralph Lowe Energy Institute. Wil VanLoh’s finance degree from TCU, entrepreneurial spirit and investment banking experience led him to the energy industry. He founded Quantum Capital Group, one of the first private equity firms focused on energy, and the firm has grown with the industry. During its 26 years, Quantum has backed more than 150 companies. VanLoh shares his knowledge and experience, in particular with TCU students. He serves as a member of the Ralph Lowe Energy Institute Board of Advisors, and VanLohn was also named a TCU Legend of Energy honored alongside Rees-Jones. The Hart Energy Hall of Fame launched last year, in recognition of the organization’s 50 years serving as a comprehensive source of news, data and analysis for the global energy industry. The 2024 Hart Energy Hall of Fame honorees were announced this month, and honors “many of the top oil and gas leaders and visionaries during the last half-century, including the ongoing domestic shale revolution and the push for U.S. energy security,” said Jordan Blum ’03, the editorial director of Hart Energy.
Blum added, “TCU has produced a lot of the industry's foremost leaders and pioneers, and Hart Energy is honored to recognize their contributions and legacies.”
