Devin Burnell

Bio

Devin Burnell is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Neeley School of Business at Texas Christian University (TCU). Devin received his Ph.D. in Business with a concentration in Entrepreneurship from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, and his M.S. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and B.S. in Psychology from the University of Central Florida. Devin’s research program stems from his interest in understanding the psychology of entrepreneurship and early-stage venturing. Specifically, he investigates the cognitive, social, and behavioral dynamics of how entrepreneurs manage new venture development under conditions of uncertainty. His research is published in Journal of Business Venturing, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Venturing Insights, and Business Horizons.

During his Ph.D. program, Devin has won several research awards from the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, including two Best Paper Awards (2021, 2023), MOC Entrepreneurial Cognition Best Student-Led Paper Award (2022), three Best Reviewer Awards (2021, 2022), and one Best Paper Award from the Southern Management Association (2021). He serves as an ad hoc reviewer for Academy of Management Review, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal, Journal of Management Studies, and Business Horizons. Devin has also served as a National Science Foundation I-Corps mentor for four cohorts where he helped scientists and engineers explore the commercial potential of new inventions. He currently teaches an undergraduate course on Entrepreneurial Leadership at the Neeley School of Business.
