Facebook and its family of apps, including Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus, were inaccessible for hours on October 4. People and businesses around the world felt the full impact when the apps disappeared from the internet.
Brandon Chicotsky, assistant professor of professional practice in marketing, shared that going offline was a serious wake-up call to those who’ve made Facebook a part of their everyday lives, especially businesses.
“If there is only a purchase option through Facebook or one of their associated platforms, then today's downtime means there's no business purchase options,” Chicotsky said. “Moving forward, Facebook is likely going to have some contingencies to ensure this does not happen again.”
